Where we began…

Every story has a beginning and here are a few photos of the apartment when we first had a look in July 2013.  We were having a coffee at Il Monaco and while Alby was paying for the coffee I walked to the edge of the river and looked across.  When Alby joined me I said ‘that will do me’ and pointed to the Turret.  ‘It’s for sale’ says Alby.  Off we went across the bridge and was looking at the garden when Wendy popped out and said hello.  Assuring her that we were not intending on purchasing in Italy and if she sold it before us that would be fine.  In November 2013 when the summer was kicking in at home in Cairns, we were floating in the pool and decided to make an offer and by ‘The Turret’.  We flew back to Bagni Di Lucca in February 2014 and purchased it.  Not a particularly daunting process – just a lot of work on Wendy’s part and a meeting with the buyer, seller, interpreter, notario (Solicitor) and a witness for about three hours.  The scariest part was parting with the cold hard cash to Wendy (or any seller) about a week before settlement.  Totally different to home and as a seasoned agent – a very foreign idea.  But all went well and on 19 February 2014 we purchased ‘The Turret’ and will never sell it…

To be fair, Wendy was not expecting us to visit.

We have loved its transformation and we are not finished yet. Our next project will be to get the garage roof repaired, a new roller door and cleaning of the stone driveway so it is not so slippery.  Parking on site will be a welcome feeling.
